Fan Stitchin’

18 Jul

I have always loved the quaint Home Sweet Home cross stitch you see in people’s homes and I am in love with a beautiful Sampler that Mr B’s Mum has in her house, but I have never really tried cross stitch for myself at least not since first school.

Doolallytat H took it up a few months back and has been really enjoying it and after looking at one of her cross stitch magazines (we are both so rock and roll) I decided I would give it a go.
And well dear reader I MAY BE HOOKED!

I couldn’t believe how calming it was I just sat in a big comfy chair with a cup of tea listening to some great music and did a bit of lettering:

I know it is not exactly great or exciting but it wasn’t bad for a first attempt. I then decided to look online for some inspiration and I was not disappointed.

Firstly this amazing sampler style pattern from the amazingly named Granniepanties

How amazingly cool is that!? And then just when I though cross stitch couldn’t get cooler, I found this on Flickr by Doaflip

Now any of you Spaced fans will know this is one of the amazingly funny quotes from the show and as soon as I saw it I knew I had to give one a go for myself.

I decided to go for a simpler design as it was only really my second attempt at a pattern and then I just had to decided out of all the quotes that I love from the show which one I would immortalise in thread……
And here it is in all it’s Spaced Geeky Glory:

This is one of my favourite quotes from the show not least because Mr B is always saying it to me when I am waffling.

I think I may do an Anchor Man one next think of the quotable cross stitch possibilities!

Family Rules!

4 Jul

On my ever constant search for cool decorating ideas, I came across the lovely idea of family rules. These are basically a list be it silly or sensible of rules for your family to live by. Now my household is a crazy one so I thought what better than creating our own set of family rules.

Take a look at this little lot for inspiration (or just go and buy….all for sale on wonderful Etsy)

Now which rule shall I start with!

Ring out for a good cause…

3 Jul

When I was at Mr B’s Step Bro’s wedding I got to have a fab chat with his Step Sis Elizabeth. She is a fellow crafter and one of the nicest people I have ever met so I always love catching up and talking about crafty stuff and our Cats.

Well after getting our kitty cats and new projects out the way Elizabeth told me she had been helping her friend Laura out at a few craft fairs raising money for an amazing charity started by Laura’s parents:

Below Laura explains a little more about the charity:

“Following five years of teaching in Tanzania in an international school, my Mum (Sheila Murray) has decided with my dad (Andy Murray) to create a charity. This will be called Teaching and Teachers Africa, or TaTA for short”

“They are aiming to support local, rural teachers with their English, teaching resources and teaching methods, as currently the teachers write on the board and the pupils copy the information. Typically, there can be 100 pupils per class, with only one textbook. They may also be looking to help local families with the school fees, which seem minimal to us, yet are unachievable for the poorest of the poor”

Well Doolallytat wanted to help out and decided that we would send the girls a big parcel of Doolallytat Rings to sell at their next Craft fair:

these are winging there way to the lovely ladies as we speak and I will let you all know when their next event will be and if you are in the Norwich area please pop in and support this amazing charity and these lovely Ladies.

Trains, Jubilations and Much needed Sleep…

4 Jun

Yet again I find myself blogging from a train (this is becoming quite a habit)

Jubilee Weekend has so far passed me by without much Queenie based frolicking at all…. Well apart from a Sunday Roast with a Union Jack stuck in the top.

I missed the whole of the drizzly Boat Parade visiting my friends and their gorgeous baby and was so tired after Mr B’s Step Bro’s wedding on Friday and the above mentioned mega roast to venture out at night. So all in all I have not been doing so well on the Jubilation front.

I have however been wearing my Union Jack nails with Pride and shouting “Jubilee” at strangers much to the amusement of a poor chap in a coffee shop (I have a feeling he thought Mr B was taking me on a day trip from the psych ward)

Tomorrow it is however time for the Doolallytat girls to get their craft on and help all the little local sproglets make Jubilee Flags and Crowns at Doolally H’s Street Party.

I am thinking a 1950’s Red, White and Blue themed outfit maybe including my Westwood Melissa Shoes (I will take full photos tomorrow)

I will also Blog about the wedding we went to in more detail in the week it was so beautiful and there was a Tractor and a massive Marquee…….anyway more about that later.

Hope you are all enjoying the Long Weekend whatever you may be doing.

Guess what…..it’s

Craft Fair Craziness…

10 May

Sorry about the lack of posts this week.

We have been busy beavering away like a pair of………Well Beavers! Just making sure we are all ready for our next appearance at Barties Boutique on Saturday 12th May, 10.00am till 16.00pm

And I think that we are now finally ready, Our sparkles are sparkling and our Flower brooches are blooming and the special Jubilee crafts are fit for a queen and that is not even mentioning the other Doolallytat bits and bobs we have on offer.

It will be the first time for a few of our crafts including the what’s your poison necklaces:

So it will be interesting to see how they go down with the Crafty crowds.

I have also been busy making lots of different rings so I am hoping my new Polka Dot button rings will be driving the crowds dotty (sorry! bad pun)

Now all we need is the rain to hold off so that we get a good crowd but at least it is indoors and the cafe is amazing! So maybe the Hardcore craft crowd will brave the rain (fingers crossed)

Hopefully if you are local we might see you there.

Sunday Showers and Healing Powers…

6 May

I have certainly had what can only be described as a very lazy day. Doolallytat’s H popped over with the hubby to pick up the little’un who had been staying over while they went to a wedding reception.

Unfortunately due to the nasty Gin Devil H was not feeling her usual hot and sprightly self today so we decided the only cure was a dose of Disney and many many cans of a well known fizzy drink!

This did however mean we got to have a good gossip and get a bit of a plan of action for next weekends craft fair which has come around so quickly. It will be the 2nd time we have been at Barties Boutique the last time was considerably sunnier, so we are hoping the inevitable rain does not dampen the general publics hunger and spirit for crafts!

I also started to plan my wonderful stamp hat and as usual got completely side tracked and started making a felt crown instead:

I was quite pleased as a first attempt. It was all cut by hand with no pattern so I think if I can get a pattern together it could look pretty good. Then all I need is to get the trusty sewing machine out and voila instant jubilee fabness.

I am hoping to make the most of the bank holiday tomorrow and at least get out and about for a few hours (weather permitting of course) and then in the afternoon hopefully finally sort out my outfit for the next wedding at the end of the month……….Now what frock will go best with my wellie boots?!?!
